It's no secret we're big fans of Kiehl's here at the BEAT, so to celebrate last night's opening of Kiehl's Manhattan Beach, here's a roundup of MB favorites ...

The Kettle - for a classic American breakfast or late night milkshakes. Don't miss their Honey Bran muffins!

Sloopy's - for post-beach burgers, and/or fresh fruit smoothies.

Mama D's - solid neighborhood Italian. BYOB.

The Beehive - a cute local boutique that stocks quality brands like            J Brand, Splendid, and JET. Great for browsing and for gifts! Their vintage-style candy selection is a fun touch.

Allison by the Beach - a great stop for pretty and unique jewelry.

Magpie - a well-named pretty home goods shop.

Kiehl's - to stock up on Coriander body wash, and Creme de Corps.

The Coffee Bean, Peet's, or Starbucks (all on Manhattan Beach Boulevard) to get a hot bevvy and a treat to-go for an evening stroll up the boardwalk.

The monthly BEAT: Hollywood. Kitchen 24.

In my opinion, you can never have too many late night restaurants. And if there were a part of L.A. that I feel needs them the most, it's probably Hollywood. You may just be coming back from a pleasant family outing to the Hollywood Bowl or a movie at the Arclight, or it may be from a crazy night at the club. No matter which way, be thankful for Kitchen 24.

As the website proclaims, it's Hollywood's only 24-hour diner and bar, and you could simply say that the Hollywood diner and bar. While serving up great diner classics like mac and cheese and burgers and all-the-time breakfast fare, the restaurant also has a mix of fancy cocktails, all served in a room full of mirrors and glitzy chandeliers. It's just the right mashup of high and low and weird and cool that Hollywood seems to encompass.

The food, meanwhile, is pretty consistently fantastic. My picks are the Jolly Green Giant omelette or the delicious Mac and cheese, paired with a manmosa -- citrus-flavored beer and orange juice. Talk about mashup, right? Oh and don't forget the homemade cupcakes!

Kitchen 24 is located at 1608 N. Cahuenga Blvd. in Hollywood and is open 24/7. There is also another branch of the restaurant being opened soon in West Hollywood.

Eat In. Garage Pizza.

Despite being the full-fledged party city that we are, Los Angeles actually closes shop pretty early. Once bars have their last calls for the night, you're reduced to only a handful of places to hang out, especially if you try and stick to nicer 'hoods.

Here's your new favorite option: Garage Pizza. All right, it's a pizza joint, which doesn't make anything super special, but the pies are huge and the place is open until 4am -- the perfect way to truly end your night (because it's basically morning). It's a little pricier than usual pizza places, but the food really is worth it -- pizzas are loaded with yummy, fresh ingredients, and surprisingly not that greasy. The crust is right there above thin. The above there is the Game Pie.

Best time to check out the goods is on Mondays, when all pizzas are $15 from open to close -- noon til 4am.

Eat Out. 24/7 Restaurant.

Los Angeles isn't the best place to find good late night dining. The Standard hotel's coffee shop, 24/7 Restaurant, is one of the bright stars in a sea of dark "closed" signs. Don't let the velvet rope at the front door deter you, just tell the door person that you're headed to the restaurant and you'll be welcomed right in.

Centrally located in the heart of the Sunset strip, this round-the-clock diner-style restaurant is really great for a late night meal, snack, or even a well-mixed nightcap. But, drink quickly if you're going to (and if you're not driving!), alcoholic beverages must be consumed (and empty glasses will be swiped from the table) by 2:00 a.m.

Standout items on the 'Overnight' (12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.) menu include guacamole with plantain chips, and mac 'n cheese. Or, if you're disciplined even at the midnight hour, an Italian chopped salad that's split-able.

Eat Out. Greenblatt's.

I love a restaurant that's reliable for being open late. I also love a good matzo ball soup. Therefore, I suppose I love Greenblatt's. The West Hollywood Deli-Restaurant & Fine Wine Shop is open till 2:00 a.m. seven days a week, 365 days a year!

The matzo ball soup here is definitely my favorite in L.A. I don't have a Jewish grandmother's cooking to compare it to, but if I did, I'm pretty sure I would still prefer Greenblatt's. The matzo has a really nice density (not too fluffy), and the broth is filled with vegetables, making it much heartier, tastier, and generally better than a plain broth with just the matzo in it. It somehow seems more natural than Jerry's (my former favorite), and the chicken is always good - not weird bits.

Greenblatt's has easy take-away as well as pleasant eat-in. They also make great deli sandwiches, and serve Dr. Brown's sodas.

Eat Out. Two Boots.

Admittedly, when I first heard about NYC's pizza joint Two Boots moving into the hip corridor of Echo Park, I didn't think it was a big deal. But famished after a show at the neighboring Echo and enticed by its stained glass/crazy mural decor, the pizza called to me...and I'm so glad I answered.

Just like the rest of its neighborhood, Two Boots has an extra ounce of cool. The place is small, but has a pretty sweet covered patio, and is bright and wild with a (new?) jukebox and the aforementioned mural. And yet, you still can't distracted from the pizza. There are the usual varieties like BBQ chicken (above) and the Mr. Pink (chicken and tomatoes), but take a risk with the Bayou Beast (shrimp, crawfish, andouille and jalapenos) or the intimidating Slayer we came across last weekend (above, that spicy concoction with drizzles of pesto), and you won't be disappointed. The flavors are fresh and rich, and the crust is crispy and surprisingly not greasy.

Plus it's cheap--two slices and a drink comes to $9 even--and did I mention the jukebox? Perfect for late-night eats too: Two Boots stays open until midnight on weeknights and 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
