Eat Out. Breakfast burrito at Oaks Gourmet.

This is my new favorite vegetarian breakfast burrito. It is so delicious that after trying it for the first time, I couldn't stop thinking about it, and returned to The Oaks Gourmet less than a week later for another.

Ingredients: three scrambled eggs, artichoke hearts, fontina cheese, roasted peppers, red onion, and cherry tomatoes. Yum!

Whether you're eating there (they have a nice communal table inside, and some counter stools outside), or getting take away, Oaks Gourmet is a really pleasant experience. While waiting for my order, I browsed the shelves of gourmet mustards and jams, as well as their refrigerator section full of specialty beers (including Allagash White).

The Oaks Gourmet is located at 1915 North Bronson Avenue in the Franklin (Avenue) Village area of Hollywood. Info: theoaksgourmet.com, (323) 871-8894

Eat Out. Grub.

A great low-key Hollywood brunch place is Grub. I hadn't even heard of it before googling for breakfast in L.A. on Sunday morning from the road after option #1 was too busy. We arrived around 11:00 a.m., and while it was quite busy, there was an outside table available so we were able to sit right down. A bowl of mixed dry cereal quickly followed.

I ordered a small orange juice and Hank had an iced coffee with milk (one downfall--no espresso machine at Grub). We both had egg (mine scrambled + his fried) and cheese sandwiches, which they make on croissants. So simple and delicious.

Grub is located at 911 Seward Street in Hollywood. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Info: grub-la.com, (323) 461-3663

Eat Out. The Pantry.

If you want some amazing pancakes, wonderful, crispy bacon, or possibly the best cheese omelet ever (and who doesn't, really?), the place to find all these things in one small restaurant is The Pantry. And it's open 24 hours a day, every day and conveniently located downtown near the Nokia and Staples Center.

I've been vegetarian for a little more than six years, but remember the fantastic, crispy bacon that is served here. It's that good.

Going here is a family tradition for the Williamses. Early on an occasional Sunday we'll wait outside (because there's always a wait Sunday morning), and read the paper as we're waiting. Then, after a good 20 minutes of standing outside in the constant LA sunshine, we'll be admitted, already ready with what we want to order.

Unfortunately for vegetarians, after breakfast there aren't many options. Possibly mac 'n' cheese, but the chefs all clad in very sporting tuxedos, do not deviate very much from the menu, unlike so many LA restaurants. Open constantly since 1924, this place is a gem from old Los Angeles and owned by former mayor Richard Riordan.

It's absolutely a place worth visiting, and with most plates around $5, it's an affordable breakfast. Cash only, though.

The Original Pantry Cafe is located at 877 S. Figueroa St.
