the BEAT of the week: Outdoor movies at Barnsdall Park.

One of my favorite summertime events is the Barnsdall Park wine tastings on Fridays, where Silver Lake Wine takes over the Los Feliz park to offer tastings of wines worthy of the beautiful view. Thankfully, although the summer is coming to its end, the fun doesn't have to stop.

That's because the wine tastings will continue into the fall -- and will now have movie screenings too. So you can cozy up under a blanket to watch a fun old movie under the stars, and still enjoy the wonderful offerings of Silver Lake Wine. This week, there's the classic comedy Fletch; next week, a personal fave: Edward Scissorhands. So don't be too bummed about summer leaving us, you've still got a chance to be outside and enjoy this California weather.

Outdoor Movies at Barnsdall Park take place Saturdays this fall at 5:30pm at Barnsdall Park, located at 4800 Hollywood Blvd. in Los Feliz. Tickets for the events include the wine tasting and movie and cost $25; or you can just see the movie for $10.

Do It. Barnsdall Park Friday night wine tasting.

It's pretty depressing: the end of summer is nearing. The sun is setting earlier, the Cinespia screenings are ending, and so too are the Barnsdall Park Friday night wine tastings.

That last event is a new discovery of mine, and I'm pretty bummed about its pending end, but you all still have one more week to enjoy it. For $25, you can support the nonprofit Barnsdall Foundation, which oversees community projects, and then enjoy a fun night of wines from the nearby Silverlake Wines. You'll get a cute souvenir glass and a total of four pours under that price as well, and you happen to get to enjoy it with one of the best views of the city. Seriously, the sunset scene there is amazing. Chill to the DJ music and grab food from the participating food trucks. And for just $15 more, you can take a guided tour of the famous Frank Lloyd Wright Hollyhock House. A great sendoff for summer.

Drink Out. San Antonio Winery in downtown LA.

You see signs for the San Antonio Winery all over Los Angeles County. I visited this winery with a girl friend and it was excellent.

Located downtown near Boyle Heights, this is an unlikely place for a winery, but they have some very excellent bottles available for tasting. San Antonio Winery set up shop nearly 100 years ago, and downtown sprung up around it.

One of my favorites is their almond-flavored wine. It's very dark and almost tastes more like a liqour then wine, it's an excellent after dinner drink.

At their bodega downtown you can sample bottles you're curious about buying. There's also a restaurant if you're interested in eating out here.

Advance Notice. District wine trolley.

In a blend of new and old Long Beach, the owners of the very cute District Wine bar in Long Beach's East Village is having a wine tasting on a trolley this Thursday, which includes a tour of the historic places of Long Beach.

Like a classier version of the Big Red Bus, this trolley has four stops and some kind of surprise.

Those interested should make reservations by calling District Wine since space on the trolley is limited.

The trolley takes off from the District Wine, located at 144 Linden Ave.
