Check It. Jean Paul Gaultier's Classique Summer Fragrance.

I'm a sucker for limited edition (and attractive) beauty product packaging. Jean Paul Gaultier's Classique Summer Fragrance for 2011 is on shelves, and has all the right notes. While rose isn't normally something I go for in a perfume, its orange blossom, lemon, and jasmine make this 'Classique' a perfect summer scent, with some vanilla and musk in there too for good measure. And the bottle is marvelous.

The iconic designer is currently north of the border for a Montreal Museum of Fine Arts exhibition, The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk, that opens Friday. The show is set to travel to Dallas next, and then to San Francisco in March of next year.

Last month we told you about the Rodarte exhibit opening at MOCA's Pacific Design Center.

On April 21, the label's designing duo, sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, will be in conversation at the SilverScreen Theater (adjacent to the design center). They'll discuss their work and the current exhibition Rodarte: States of Matter.

Check It. Martha Stewart Collection at Macy's.

We enjoy some time in the kitchen here at 'the BEAT' - and part of cooking being fun is having the right tools. Some quality brands can get pricey, but Martha Stewart's line is classic, chic, and affordable.

Last time I was in the Sherman Oaks Macy's, I was speed walking around the home department looking for the restroom, and the Martha Stewart Collection caught my eye. They have an especially wide selection there. The colors are great--creamy teals, deep blues, perfect reds. It's classic with a modern twist, and somehow has an element of kitsch while remaining pretty sleek.

Favorites: the enameled cast iron cookware (that looks quite a bit like Le Creuset but is a fraction of the price), the recipe cocktail shaker (my very similar one is Pottery Barn, but Martha's is actually a more attractive design), and the recipe box (shown above; now available in red).

Los Angeles-area Macy's include: Beverly Center, downtown L.A., and Century City.

The "East Village master of decoupage plates, trays, lamps, and other decorative items" as the New York Times' T Magazine Blog calls him, is back in L.A.--via Target.

When high-end designer John Derian's 2008 collection for Target was on shelves, I picked up a bathroom trash bin and a picture frame. This time 'round, there are more items I'm excited about. Trays, plates, and mugs, all in his signature style. The old-fashioned profile items are very cool, I think, and the three-tier tray (pictured above, $14.99) would be perfect for a tea party.

The line is officially in select stores Sunday September 5.
