Check It. Historical Post Offices.

I took a different route home than usual from the Glendale Galleria this afternoon after a quick exchange at the Gap. A pleasant discovery along the way was this awesome post office on East Broadway. According to the Glendale Historical Society, it was constructed between 1932 and 1934, and is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. It was a collaboration between architects George M. Lindsey (who designed Los Feliz's Marshall High School--the most gorgeous public high school I've ever seen) and James A. Wetmore.

I paid the Hollywood Post Office (1615 Wilcox Avenue) a visit a few weeks ago, and while it wasn't an entirely pleasant experience, I did appreciate my art deco surroundings.

When you're doing necessary chores (or mailing love letters), may as well do it someplace beautiful.

Do It. Sephora opening at Americana at Brand.

Tomorrow morning a new Sephora is opening at Americana at Brand (the Grove's Glendale counterpart).

Josie Maran will be there for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:00 a.m., and festivities to follow.

Sounds like a good time to get a Nars set, or some new Rosebud Perfume Co. lip balm for the winter months.

Eat Out. Deluca's Italian Deli.

During an afternoon of shopping at Glendale's Americana at Brand on Saturday afternoon while the boys were at The Los Angeles Gun Club, Mrs. Elizabeth Katz (Hank's lovely sister) and I popped into Deluca's for a bite to eat.

I've been really wishing L.A. had Dean & Deluca lately, so I was quite excited to see what I hoped (and expected) was some form of the famed gourmet grocer. Unfortunately it's just a case of the same name, but this little spot isn't bad! The front of the shop has a deli case with several tasty-looking salads, then there's hot food, drinks (including Veuve Clicquot and 1/2 and full bottles of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio), Italian treats (like panettone), and panini galore.

The Panino Vegetariano (pictured above), which we shared, was quite tasty and satisfying. It was warm, on grilled wheat bread, and the olive spread was especially delicious. My lemonade however was nothing special.

The bar-height wooden tables and stools were perfect for a casual lunch, and the atmosphere was pleasant. Also worth noting: they sell packages of sometimes-difficult-to-find garganelli pasta.

Do It. Vaudeville at the Alex.

This Sunday the Alex Film Society is presenting a night of vaudevillian inspired performances and a series of short silent movies.

The theater is a beautiful art deco building that is in great shape, a lot like The Wiltern in design.

This is an event I would look forward to all year, and I'm kicking myself that I'll be out of town for this one. Past events have had comedic acts, magic, and 1920s style sing-alongs.

This year's event is a matinee only, at 2 p.m. this Sunday. Tickets are $20.

Do It. Summer events at Americana at Brand.

Taking the drive up to Glendale can seem like a hassle most of the time, especially just for a shopping trip, but Americana at Brand is giving you a good (and free!) excuse.

The outdoors shopping center from Rick Caruso (of The Grove fame) has set up a couple fun activities for the coming summer weekdays. There's the summer concert series on Wednesdays at 6pm, which will feature free live performances on The Green--look out for Natasha Bedingfield next week, and Paula Cole later in the month. And then there's the summer movie series on Thursdays at 8pm, which has The Devil Wears Prada screening tonight for free ($3 suggested donation), then Avatar and High School Musical 3 in the coming weeks.

What's even better about the movie series is that it happens to coincide perfectly with Americana's Happy Hour, which occurs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm-9pm. That means you can hop on the Americana trolley and enjoy happy hour specials at the center's restaurants like Katsuya and the Cheesecake Factory, and then head on over to the outdoors screening afterward. Who knew a mall could still be fun as an adult?

Do It. Watch Sex and the City 2 with cocktails.

Nothing like a good excuse to have martinis with a movie, right? The release of Sex and the City 2, if not for anything else, is just what you're looking for, ladies (besides some Aidan action, of course).

The Americana at Brand is hosting a "Girls Night Out" tomorrow from 6-10pm, where you can catch the movie at the Pacific Theatres and then get special cocktail deals at neighboring restaurants. And the entertainment is full-on 80s, with DJ Richard Blade and a cover band by the name Neurotic City playing live gigs.

Meanwhile, Rick Caruso's other entertainment entity, The Grove, is holding "The Ultimate Sex and the City Night Out," where $45 will get you private and reserved seats for a screening of the film, a cocktail party with food by The Farm of Beverly Hills and complimentary valet parking. Screenings take place in either the park or in the Pacific Theatres, and the promotion occurs all weekend.

But if you want to really go all out, just like Carrie and the girls would, head over to the Arclight Hollywood and take part in the SATC2 21+ Party Package happening all weekend, where for $70 you can get one ticket to a 21+ screening of the movie, where you can sip on (two drink coupons are included) specialty SKYY vodka cocktails with names like Glamour Gal and munch on free, unlimited appetizers from the in house chef.

Speaking of SKYY Vodka, the company's apparently produced special Sex and the City bottles, so you can always just party like the ladies at home! And appropriately, there are recipes to match.

Either way, don't forget your Manolos!

Eat Out. Street Feast at Americana at Brand.

Trying to trace and chase after the ever-so-popular gourmet food trucks is half the fun or half the trouble, depending on how hungry you are. Tonight, you can bypass the tweets and Facebook posts and finally just get to eating already.

Some of the most recently popular food trucks, including the Grilled Cheese, Buttermilk and Dim Sum trucks, are taking part in Street Feast, a mobile cuisine fest grounded at Glendale's Americana at Brand. Some of Americana's brick-and-mortar restaurants are joining in too, bringing in specials like happy hour at Katsuya, wine from Trattoria Amici and signature tacos from Frida Mexican cuisine, along with a live DJ and contests and raffles.

And with Crumbs Bake Shop and Beard Papa's right on site, dessert is all set. Happy eating!

Street Feast will take place 6pm-9pm tonight at Americana at Brand, located at 300 S. Brand Ave., with the trucks reported to be lined up long Caruso Ave.
