Click It. BEAT picks of the week.

#realtalk from your editor.

Want to give your manicurist a hard time? Choose Essie's 'Wicked' or 'Fiji'. Insider tip from my manicurist tonight (as she was painstakingly applying 'Wicked') ... those are the colors they use to test potential new salon employees!

My next book: Brooklyn. Nick Hornby (my favorite!) is adapting it into a screenplay, and in the film, Rooney Mara will play the lead.

A weekend treat idea: Starbucks Pumpkin Bread. It's ridiculously delicious, especially with a latte or hot tea.

Etsy's March Meet & Make in California is taking place tonight in Los Angeles and San Francisco. More details here.

How cool is Stella McCartney?

If you have some awards-season catching up to do, Hugo and J. Edgar are out on DVD this week.

Have you tried Starbucks' Blonde Roast? It was the hot item during my morning stop today.

I've been loving slathering on Aveeno's Positively Ageless Reconditioning Night Cream. It smells fresh and is a great creamy but not too heavy consistency.

This Pomelo Blossom candle from Catbird in Williamsburg, Brooklyn smells SO good. They also make great tin travel candles.

Extremely simple Thai curry to make at home.

Check It. Tazo Zen tea.

Green tea is often touted as a healthy alternative to coffee--but I find it difficult to choose green tea over coffee.

After a long and emotional weekend, I found myself at LAX early Monday morning about to board a cross-country flight. And in a long line at the airport Starbucks. I was majorly sleep-deprived and needed revitalization, but somehow didn't see relief coming from a strong and steamy Americano. I opted for a Venti Iced Green Tea (they use Tazo's "Zen" green tea). Wow. It was so refreshing and delicious, I made involuntarily "yum" noises. Slight hints of lemon, and the use of spearmint leaves, make all the difference in this outstanding green tea.

Eat Out. Starbucks Greek Yogurt Honey Parfait.

Most Starbucks breakfast food leaves quite a bit to be desired. This new yogurt parfait is an exception. The combination of reduced-fat yogurt with coconut-almond macaroon granola, pumpkin seeds, and dried cranberries is a delicious morning meal, or late afternoon snack.

It's a perfect small (6.1-oz.) size--satisfying but not too much, especially because it's quite creamy.

I first tried one last week, and I'm already craving another.

Check It. L.A. Rain.

Having some rainy days in Los Angeles is quite nice. You need the right accessories to properly enjoy the rain--shoes, scarfs, a good umbrella, etc. The right music also makes a big difference in setting an enjoyable rainy day mood.

Simon & Garfunkel's 'The Only Living Boy in New York' (from their 1970 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' album) is a perfect rain song in my book. This morning I also got majorly back into Ryan Adams' 'Gold', which left me wondering why I ever took a break from listening to it non-stop.

A Starbucks whole milk misto is the final element necessary for a perfect drizzly morning.

Eat Out. Half-Off Frappuccinos at Starbucks.

I have never been one of those Starbucks customers who orders that Venti half white mocha, half cafe vanilla, extra ice, with 2 extra shots and 3/4 foam blah blah blah, mostly for the fact that I don't even know what half of that means. It's coffee, for goodness sakes!

But maybe I'll test out the customizing waters this week as Starbucks introduces its new "Create Your Own Frappuccino" campaign. And while I was under the impression that you could always create anything you want at the chain, it's apparently being encouraged now (complete with a weird and totally useless attempt at social networking). But what should encourage you to make up your own frappuccino creation? How about half-off fraps every day until the 16th from 3pm-5pm?

Yes, now you can get your crazy triple pump, extra whip and caramel drizzle concoction for half-off during Starbucks' week-long "happy hour." See you there! I'll be the one perfectly content with my grande mocha.

Eat Out. Free Starbucks pastry and Ben & Jerry's ice cream.

Christmas came a little early today, with two major chains giving away their goodies for free.

Today marks Starbucks' annual free pastry day. Print off a coupon, and present it with the purchase of any "handcrafted" coffee at a participating Starbucks and get a pastry gratis.

As Starbucks happily points out, their goodies are now sans artificial flavors, dyes, transfats, and high-fructose corn syrup, so you can enjoy a treat guilt free (pretty much).

Free pastry day ends at 10:30 a.m., so go get your free breakfast/brunch ASAP.

Also serving up free treats is the hormone-free ice cream of Ben & Jerry's. Between the hours of 12-8 p.m. people can visit any Ben & Jerry's to get a free scoop of ice cream, but lines get pretty long for this one, so maybe bring a magazine. Their new flavors of Maple Blondie, Peanut Brittle, and Milk & Cookies sound pretty enticing.

A free scoop of ice cream? Yes, please.
