Advance Notice. Savor Los Angeles: Pairings.

Peanut butter and jelly. Chocolate and strawberries. Wine and cheese. There's nothing quite like a good food pairing. And that is the BFF theme of next month's Savor Los Angeles event, where chefs from favorite L.A. restaurants will be presenting their own bites and versions of all those beloved pairings. And hey, you get the chance to taste them!

It's all taking place on Thursday, June 2nd at Siren Studios Orange in West Hollywood. Savor Los Angeles, Pairings! is celebrating Best Friends Foods (get it??) edition will feature goodies from restaurants like Malo/Mas Malo, Starry Kitchen, Reservoir, The Farm of Beverly Hills and more, with beverages provided by Veev acai and Duvel Belgian beer. The special event isn't free, but proceeds from your $55 will go to CoachArt, which provides free and personal lessons in arts and athletics to children and adolescents with life-threatening illnesses. So not only will you be eating amazing, probably once-in-a-lifetime cuisine, you'll be doing some good at the same time. It's early, but buy your tickets now because the intimate event will surely sell out.

Savor Los Angeles: Pairings! takes place on June 2nd at Siren Studios Orange, located at 1050 N. Orange Dr. in West Hollywood.

Eat Out. All You Can Eat Valentine's Day at Mas Malo.

If you don't have plans for Valentine's Day yet -- or even if you do -- this should be it. We here at the BEAT are obviously big fans of Malo, and having just visited the new Mas Malo downtown, I was just as impressed. The new venue is beautiful, and a great and fun setting for all your Malo favorites -- plus a few extras (Ensenada bacon wrapped shrimp, anyone? Maybe with a Pinata Smash?).

It's definitely a perfect spot for a date, or just a party with friends...even on Valentine's Day. And that's because they're holding "X+O Ladies and Bros V-Day Soiree," meaning $20 at the door gets you all you can eat, cash bar and a DJ. All you can eat. Yes. Even these. And how best to break the ice than with a spicy cucumber margarita right? Love at first taco. It happens.

Here's your info
(PDF).

Mas Malo is located at 517 W. 7th Street in downtown.

Eat In. Malo's Ground Beef and Pickle Taco.

Silverlake's Malo has a new sister restaurant that just opened up in downtown, called Mas Malo, that's creating a ton of buzz right now. But if you can't get a reservation, and are still craving those delicious tacos, enjoy some at home!

Malo's own Robert Luna divulged his secrets of the ground beef and pickle taco to KCET. Check out the recipe below:

Eat Out. Malo [Sunday Brunch].

Silver Lake's Malo restaurant is well-known for its great margaritas and happy hours, but it just so happens that it's a great place to visit after those margaritas and happy hours too. The Mexican eatery recently began opening up early for weekend brunch, and the hip Eastside crowd is loving it--for good reason.

The brunch menu offers all the regular, great-for-the-hangover brunch favorites, like the breakfast burrito and chilaquiles (both seen above), but with Malo's extra attention to detail in flavor and fresh ingredients. The chilaquiles, though obviously not the healthiest meal, actually wasn't as greasy as I had imagined, and the portion was just right not to make me feel like I'd see it (or the night before) later. There were also fun and unique options like the mango and banana French toast that seem worth trying out.

And of course, with any good hangover brunch, Malo offers drinks--top-notch, of course. Their sangria is always a favorite of mine, and a mojito would probably be nice around noon. We tried the Malo Cafe, which had coffee mixed Kahula and tequila, and it was pretty strong. Made for a good wake-up call, at least.

Malo is located at 4326 Sunset Blvd. in Silver Lake. Brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays, from 9am-3pm.

Do It. Cinco de Mayo options.

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Today being May 5, a celebration of Mexican victory over French invasion in 1862, probably means you're wondering where you're going to get a margarita tonight (or before tonight).

Y'all know my favorite margarita in L.A. is at El Carmen.

Silver Lake's Malo has some Cinco de Mayo specials (especials?), including a $25 gourmet margarita pitcher named "The Battle of Puebla" ironically rimmed with French sea salt. Santa Monica's Border Grill has $5 drinks and $3 tacos from 11:30 a.m. till 10:00 p.m. today.

If you feel like staying in this Wednesday night, but still want to celebrate the holiday a bit, make your own martini-style margarita!

Whatever you do, have fun, and be safe. I'm sure there will be a DUI checkpoint or two set up around town this evening.

Eat Out. Malo makes Monday a fun day.

Just east of Fountain on Sunset (next to the Elliott Smith wall) is a little Mexican restaurant called Malo that gets packed on Monday nights for their taco night.

Many restaurants go for Tuesday Taco nights, perhaps simply because alliteration can be fun ... Don Antonio's dollar taco night is the place to be on Wednesdays, but Malo is very wise--I think--to take on Mondays. Nobody likes Mondays, but knowing there's something fun to do on Monday night makes the morning (and day) a little better.

Malo's has delicious margaritas and their taco night has a great selection, including eggplant and potato ($1), and lobster ($5).

Malo is located at 4326 W. Sunset Blvd. in Silver Lake.
