This weekend, I'm very excited about a Tex-Mex-themed Christmas party (the invite said "Feliz Nav, Y'all!") we're attending in Brooklyn. There will be margaritas (my recipe here) and queso--and other delights from the Homesick Texan cookbook.

Another book from my mental Christmas list: The Perfectly Imperfect Home: How to Decorate & Live Well (by Deborah Needleman, Domino magazine's founding editor).

Two comedies I'm hoping to see this weekend: The Sitter, and Young Adult. And maybe a rental of The Hangover Part II on DVD, if the video store has any left.

The LudoTruck will be at Echo Park's Sunset Beer Company tomorrow night, 7:00 p.m.

Get some Scoops ice cream afterward for a sweet start to the weekend, the brown bread flavor is really interesting and delicious!

Do It. The Hangover Part II.

For everyone who laughed all through the misadventures of Phil, Stu, Alan, and Doug in the summer of 2009, the sequel is out tonight. This time they're in Thailand, and so far I'm hearing all good things.

The Hangover Part II is out at midnight.

As always, drinks (but not too many!) at the Hungry Cat Hollywood are recommended if you're going to the ArcLight.

Get this: two of the entertainment world's most arguably funny (and quite strange) people are getting into one room together. And having a conversation. Together. In front of an audience. And you could be part of that audience!

Indeed, you have the chance to catch the ever-wonderful Tina Fey converse on stage with the ever-humbling Steve Martin as part of Live Talks Los Angeles. It's a rare occasion, to say in the least, and sure to be a complete ruckus -- my mind can't even wrap around what may happen at this appearance. Oh, the possibilities.

But here's the raw info: besides being hilarious comedians, the two also happen to be winners of the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize for American humor, a pretty amazing honor. So they're promoting their latest books, of which you may also purchase pre-signed copies along with your tickets to the event. The event is taking place Tuesday, April 19, but tickets are going on sale tomorrow at 10am. It's $29 for regular seating; $49 for premier seating plus Fey's Bossypants, or $119 for prime seating plus Bossypants and Martin's An Object of Beauty. You may also buy Bossypants there and get it signed by Fey in person that night.

I'm going to watch Saturday Night Live tonight for the first time in a long time. Jim Carrey is hosting, and the Black Keys are the musical guests.

Some Newman's Own popcorn and lemonade sounds great as a viewing snack. Or a deliciously rich 'Milk' milkshake.

Do It. Comedy is Dead at Hollywood Forever.

By now, most everyone in L.A. knows about the Cinespia screenings at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Sadly, the movie screening season is over, but the cemetery is still alive -- ha!

But really. Tomorrow night is the 13th (spooky!) edition of Comedy is Dead, a semi-regular comedy night featuring a rotating cast of very well-known and pretty well-known performers at the Masonic Lodge. The line-up this time around features Michael Ian Black, Todd Barry, Chelsea Peretti, and more. Even the opener is supposed to be downright hilarious -- Duncan Trussell apparently knows how to do a puppet joke -- so that should be an indication of the fun you'll have. Tickets are $20 (parking is free), and you can buy them here.

Comedy is Dead takes place Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 8pm at the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, located at 5970 Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood.

Check It. Between Two Ferns [The Monday Download].

When I first watched "The Landlord" a few years ago, I was pretty sure Funny or Die would probably live to be a one hit wonder. But the comedy site's been consistently pushing out funny videos and clips ever since, thanks to a lot of support from celebs willing to show that they have a sense of humor.

One of my favorite series on the site is "Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifinakis." Galifinakis, obviously, has been getting quite popular since his memorable role in The Hangover, and he continues with his trademark deadpan humor here, playing host of a talk show with a few famous stars as guests. Below is his latest, featuring Steve Carell, but if you're not familiar with the show, I'd definitely catch up by watching the earlier episodes (don't miss the Conan O'Brien and Bradley Cooper ones).

Also, this still makes me laugh out loud. Happy Monday!

Check It. Cinefamily's 2nd Annual Comedy Festival.

Happy June, BEATs! It's always tough coming back from a long weekend, especially with summer right at our fingertips, but thankfully, the never-disappointing Cinefamily at the Silent Movie Theatre has just what we need: comedy. Enter the Cinefamily's 2nd Annual Comedy Festival.

The month-long fest is the perfect way to usher in the summer season, complete with awesome special events and even some big-name guest star appearances. This week kicks off with a three-day 'The Mighty Boosh' extravaganza, with appearances by one of the hilarious British TV show's regulars, Rich Fulcher (see his reel above), in his new role as Eleanor the Tour Whore (that says it all, doesn't it?), and a screening of the Boosh tour documentary Journey of the Childmen.

Later in the month, you can catch tributes to the great Fred Willard (with an appearance by Willard himself), National Lampoon's 40th anniversary and Cheech and Chong. There'll also be screenings of classic comedic moments, like shorts from Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, and The Heartbreak Kid (not the Ben Stiller version, of course). "The Other Network" night promises legendary and rare unaired pilots by Conan O'Brien and Judd Apatow.

As always, you can (and should) buy tickets for these screenings and events beforehand. Summer is upon us--get laughing!

Do It. David Sedaris at the Long Beach Convention Center.

David Sedaris is best known for writing hilariously witty and charming books like Me Talk Pretty One Day and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, but did you know that he's even better (dare we say funnier?) in person? With endless amounts of personal and fictional tales, pitch-perfect comedic timing and a signature voice, Sedaris is actually quite the riveting live performer.

Find out for yourself (and get ready for a night of eye-watering laughter) as Sedaris takes the stage at the Terrace Theater at the Long Beach Convention Center tomorrow. Tickets are still available (unlike for his UCLA date on Wednesday, so this is obviously a hot ticket!) for $25-$45, and Sedaris is sure not to disappoint. Plus, with a new book rumored to be released this October, this could be a chance to hear some of his new work before anyone else.

Do It. The Onion and A.V. Club at Echoplex.

Call me old-fashioned, but I still mourn the absence of an actual weekly print issue of The Onion in L.A. There was nothing better than an inappropriate headline and ridiculous photo to brighten up my Thursday mornings, and I appreciated the A.V. Club's witty and wise guidance through pop culture for my weekends. Sure, there's the web, but I miss the local A.V. Club guide, and it's just not the same reading about "That Full House Episode Where They Meet the Beach Boys Is On Tomorrow at 3 P.M." or "Bush Refuses To Set Timetable For Withdrawal Of Head From White House Banister" from your computer screen. It's not! (But they're admittedly still funny.)

So I guess we'll have to settle for...having The Onion and the A.V. Club in person! That's right, your favorite names and brains behind the headlines and entertainment coverage are appearing tonight at Echoplex for "Our Dumb Book Event," which celebrates the release of their Inventory and Our Front Pages books. They're also bringing comedians Tom Lennon and Ben Garant from Reno 911! and the band Division Day with them, among others, and considering it's April Fools Day, hijinks are sure to be in order.

Our Dumb Book Event is $10 at 7:30pm at Echoplex, located at 1154 Glendale Blvd. in Echo Park.

Ricky Gervais is seriously hilarious. I don't know how many times I've watched him on BBC's The Office and rewinded the DVDs to catch snippets of his genius humor again (and again). His films and HBO comedy special have been great post-Office treats, and now he's hosting the 2010 Golden Globes on Sunday night, and will be at L.A. Live for two nights in May--the 15th and 16th.

Tickets go on sale on ticketmaster.com next Friday (January 22) at 10:00 a.m. for Gervais' Los Angeles shows.

Check It. Latino 101.

Last night Lauren and I attended the premiere party for our friend (and ex fellow LAT Editorial Assistant) Joshua Sandoval's new TV show, "Latino 101". "The class you never took" is in the same commentary-style vein as VH1 hits like "I Love the 80's" and "Best Week Ever". The brand new show features comedian/actors Alex Reymundo, Joey Medina and Godfrey (who you may know as the 7 Up guy), among others.

Check it out--Josh is a very funny guy and it's sure to come across in his latest creative venture.

Check It. Modern Family.

This week's "Undeck the Halls" episode of ABC's new hit show "Modern Family" is sure to get you in the holiday spirit. Family webcam chatting with grandpa (Fred Willard) in ugly Christmas sweaters? Yes. If you're not already obsessed with the mid-week treat, tune in tonight to meet the cast, and discover what is sure to soon become a favorite.

Ed O'Neill (perhaps better known as Al Bundy) is better than ever as Jay Pritchett, the thread between each "modern family"--his own (he's re-married to a much younger Columbian beauty named Gloria, played by the hilarious Sofia Vergara), and those of his two children (Claire Dunphy played by Julie Powell and Mitchell Pritchett, played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson). Claire is married to my favorite character in the show, wannabe hip dad Phil Dunphy, played by Ty Burrell. He will make you LOL (he "surfs the web" and texts, so knows these abbreviations, like WTF--why the face?). Burrell has a familiar face from various small-ish roles, but he's making a name for himself here.

Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.

Do It. Crazy Heart, Funny or Die, Princeton.

Crazy Heart at LACMA, tonight at 7:30 p.m., $12.
Everything I've heard about this new film has the word "Oscar" attached to it. "Crazy Heart" is a musical drama (complete with original music) that follows the story of Bad Blake, a down-and-out country music singer just trying to make a living. Consider it this year's "The Wrestler." Stars Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal will be on hand during this special preview screening (the film will be in limited release beginning Dec. 16) for a Q&A.

Funnyordie.com Presents the Internet 3.0 at the Egyptian Theatre, Fri. at 7:30 p.m., $10.
Can you believe it's only been two years since you first laid eyes on Pearl the Landlord? Internet viral video has never been the same, and the people who helped to change it are celebrating with a live program complete with screenings of new and old-time favorite webisodes and special guests. Where's my rent?!

Princeton at Spaceland, Sat. at 8:30 p.m., $8 (21+ only).
It's got to come down to talent and passion when you're a band with more than five years down the road, you've released EPs upon EPs, with finally an official debut album in Sept., and your music still sounds well-crafted and fresh. So it goes for Princeton, a local indie pop band headed by a set of adorable twin brothers. They'll be hitting SXSW next year; celebrate the hometown heroes now while you can.

Do It. Cinefamily Andy Kaufman event.

I became a fan of the late, great Andy Kaufman after being shown his "I Trusted You" video on YouTube. It's unreal. I find his style of comedy--which many acts mimic today--refreshingly immature in the best possible way. You end up laughing out loud even if you don't want to.

The 1992 R.E.M. song "Man on the Moon" makes reference to Kaufman's work, and the 1999 film of the same name, starring Jim Carrey, is based on his life.

Tonight, to honor the 25th anniversary of the song and dance man's death in 1984, Cinefamily is holding an event celebrating the just-released book Dear Andy Kaufman, I Hate Your Guts! and show some never-before-seen "solid Kaufman gold". Bob Zmuda, Kaufman's best friend, writer and sidekick will be there for a Q & A.

The 8:00 p.m. show is sold out, a 10:30 p.m. show has been added. Tickets are $15.
